End of term games and hot chocolate!

Autumn Term 2017

Class 1

Class 1 have had a brilliant last half term before Christmas. We have introduced Tilly the Bear this term who will be coming for an adventure with a different child each weekend. They have made us all proud in the nativity, showing confidence and enthusiasm.

In Literacy we have been learning about poetry and we have written and performed our own poems which are available to watch if you wish to see them.

In mathematics we have been learning about multiplication and division and geometry. It has been good to see some children really pushing themselves with their work.

The class has really progressed with their spellings and phonics this half term and this is now being portrayed in our written work. The children have loved being able to show their work to the rest of the school and staff.

We will be starting our new topic when we are back ‘What makes Britain Great?’ which will be exciting to see the children learning different facts about the country we live in.

Miss Thompson and I have enjoyed working as a team and look forward to another great term.  Some of the children have said they have enjoyed the following this half term: “The Pantomine”, “The nativity”, “Being with the teachers”, “Playing rugby with Miss Thompson”, “Being with friends”, “Everything”, “Football”.

Class 2

Key Stage 2 have been working very hard this term. They have been developing their extended writing and have produced some brilliant newspaper reports. They have also written some beautiful poetry in response to our class book, The Viewer, in which an old fashioned Viewmaster slide machine is discovered!

In Maths we have looked at fractions and used pizzas and chocolate to help us with this! The children’s reasoning and problem solving skills have really progressed so a big well done to them all.

We’ve also done some super Science this term. Thank you to Mrs Adams who showed us stethoscopes and how to check blood pressure. Thank you also to Mr Nicholson who brought in some sheeps hearts and internal organs for the children to see and touch!

Out topic, Chocolate, has been helped by an historical actor visiting us to talk about York’s chocolate history. A thank you to Mr. Perry also, who talked to the children about his time in South America and work with cocoa beans.

The Year 5 & 6 children have been working really hard on their young apprentice project. We are very excited to see the children’s final board presentations on Monday 29th January, 2018. We are lucky enough to have Nick Howard, James Fenwick and Councillor Janet Sanderson (young people’s representative) on the panel.

A great term KS2 – Well done!

KS2 Residential Trip to East Barnby

May Half term

Happy half term!  We hope you're all enjoying the sunshine and have lots planned for the short break.

On the final Friday of this half term, the children from Foston and Terrington went to Summit Selby, and indoor play and adventure centre.  It was an amazing day of climbing ropes, walls and playing in the soft play area.

The children worked so well together to support each other when they were nervous about climbing the really tall walls and high ropes!

What's more Minster FM visited us halfway through and interviewed Mrs Allon and some of the children! They were accompanied by their mascot bear, which created a lot of excitement on an already exciting day!

 May 2017

As always, so many exciting updates to tell you about! Please see our latest newsletter for important dates and notices.

Duncombe Park Trip

The infants had a wonderful time at Duncombe Park as part of their countryside day. The children enjoyed a very busy day which involved six activities from learning about and meeting a very friendly gun dog, to planting their own 'love in a mist' plant. We also met some gamekeepers and explored different types of pond life, then finished off the day with an amazing flying demonstration from their Birds of Prey Centre.

Tree Planting

On Saturday 6th May, a willing army of parents, friends and helpers descended on the school meadow to help plant over 20 young apple trees. This forms the first part of our plans to develop the meadow, which includes a peace garden and outdoor learning area.

We are extremely grateful to all the people who helped make the day a success and who contributed their time to make it happen.

As it’s been so dry recently, the children have been busy watering our thirsty new saplings!

Year 6 SATS

A huge well done to our Year 6’s this year who have worked so hard before and during their SATS. We think they deserve a bit of a rest now, before starting more exciting learning!

Easter Service

The children delivered a superb Easter Service to parents and friends back in April. We were so impressed by their artwork, which was displayed in the church.

Art Day

In March KS2 travelled to Foston where we had a full art day with Liz Collier. The theme was ‘Space’ and all the children produced some fantastic pieces. We are going to showcase these in a ‘Children’s art gallery’ in the Village Hall on Friday 9th June from 3:15 pm, where refreshments will be served. We hope to see you there!

Red Nose Day 2017

We all had great fun for RND this year, raising over £200. For school our size, this is a fantastic achievement so thank you to all who supported this excellent cause.

Debating Competition

We'd like to say a big WELL DONE to this year's debating team. They fought it out to debate the question 'Is homework a waste of time?' at the Ryedale Council Chambers this morning.  The quality of the teams and questioning was exceptionally high this year and Terrington came 2nd overall! This is a fantastic achievement for the team who have worked so hard.

January 2017

Welcome back and a happy 2017 to you all.

Last year culminated in a fantastic den building morning with children from both schools on the meadow at Terrington. The rain held off although it didn’t stop us getting muddy! It was very fun morning, helped by hot Ribena and hot chocolate during morning break!

December also saw the arrival of Santa, who very kindly gave the children some gifts. We played party games in the village hall and had lots of party food back at school.

The Christmas service in Terrington All Saints church was also a success. A particular special mention goes to those who read in front of the congregation. The service concluded with a Christingle service, bringing a tear to the eyes of many parents!
